Hypostatisation

Another word for certain forms of reification.

The term “hypostatisation” is derived from the ancient Greek hypóstasis [ὑπόστασις], which actually means “standing beneath”, but can also be translated as “underlying” or “substance”. Hypostatisation therefore refers to the process of giving something substance.
