 A variation on the [[index|appeal to false authority]], where the "authority" in this case is a tradition or custom.

> Traditionally, a woman’s place is at home by the hearth.
> <s invalid "Invalid appeal to tradition">That should not be changed, which is why women should not pursue a career.</s>

Even though it has indeed long been a //tradition// (at least among certain demographic groups) for women to take on the role of housewife and mother, this is not a valid argument for why things should still be handled in this way in a changing society.
